Old gig reviews: Lunasuit, Felony 7 and Outmeasured @ The Brown Cow, Mansfield 14/9/2001

*A series of things I wrote a long time ago*

Outmeasured

These guys play pop-punk a la Lagwagon and a bunch of other American bands. They do it very well. The drummer is great, battering his kit like a crazy man. The vocals have an English flavour and are delivered well, and the songs are well constructed, with some cool tempo changes. Fans of Felony 7 would be impressed...

Felony 7

...which is useful since the boys were roped in at the last minute! They played a good set, the setlist being invented on the spot. So a few of their classics like 'Ballad Of Britney Spears' featuring a few crowd members on guest vocals (including yours truly), some of the great new material like 'What She Said' and 'Song For The Parents' and a cover of 'Last Song I Ever Wrote About A Girl' by The Ataris. Another good set from Felony 7.

Lunasuit

As usual, the crowd got smaller ofter Felony 7 finished, leaving Lunasuit with about 20 people to play to. This seemed to dishearten them a little. The songs were strong enough, the same kinda pop-punk that the other two bands played, and their female singer sounded a little like one of the girls from the ska-punky Dance Hall Crashers. They were ok, but it seems the only way to keep a crowd in Mansfield is to go on before the local band. Not bad, but would probably play better with a larger crowd.
