Interview with Squid circa 1998-1999

Clarification: there is now another moderately successful band called Squid who are very different. This Squid were a goth/industrial band heavily influenced by Marilyn Manson and NIN. This was a postal interview with the frontperson Jason. I think they had a song called How Many Maggots Is Enough hence that last question.
_______

Squid Interview

Squid are a goth metal band from Preston who specialise in Marilyn Manson type noise. I thought they were pretty good, so I interviewed ‘em! Singer Jason answered my pointless questions in a suitably amusing manner.

Lukas:-How did the band form?
Jason:-I started to wear dresses again and had to write songs about the lovely experience.

Lukas:-When did you first hear Marilyn Manson?
Jason:-Beavis & Butthead – Get Your Gunn video.

Lukas:-What effect has the ‘new goth’, Manson inspired scene had on you?
Jason:-To mosh around like a queer and not care if my lipstik smudges.

Lukas:-Why did you decide to self produce ‘Prophetishism’ (their first release)?
Jason:-A horrible fact of financial life – we can’t afford anyone bad let alone anyone good, so I ‘did it’!

Lukas:-Why did you stop playing the Manson covers?
Jason:-Because we also had to stop playing NIN ones too as ours were better and we felt sorry for the other bands.

Lukas:-Influences? (Marilyn Manson…)
Jason:-Bauhaus, Faith No More, NIN, Siouxsie & The Banshees, Bowie, Archangel Gabriel, Jane’s Addiction

Lukas:-Fave bands?
Jason:-I like a lot of bands, but I truly admire + love only a very few.

Lukas:-Favourite Squid song?
Jason:-All of them, I enjoy all of them. (crap answer – sorry)

Lukas:-Do you think the end will be in 2000?
Jason:-I’d love to get my end in 2000.

Lukas:-How many maggots is enough?

Jason:-When you start to choke and you cannot breath, then there are way too many.
