Tura Satana w/ Will Haven and Psycore
@ Rock City, Nottingham 2/5/98
Let's be honest here. Psycore are shit. On record they are average at best, but live they are one of the poorest things I've ever seen. The UK rock mags seem to be worshipping Swedish bands at the moment and Psycore are hangers on to the likes of Entombed and the Backyard Babies.
Will Haven, at first glance, appear to be in the same boat. The rock mags are pushing them as a Korn/Deftones type band, but, like Human Waste Project, they are more hardcore than anything else. Will Haven take the best of metal and hardcore, throw in some emo and end up with some pretty fukkin good tunes! I'm told the album is amazing, better than the live shows.
Tura Satana have a wide appeal. There were all sorts of people in the crowd, punks, metallers, and even a few of the hardcore kids. It was clear that I was one of the few in the mosh that didn't know all the words, so I just fucked shit up instead. Tura Satana do indeed know how to write a good mosh tune. They also know how to deal with tossers. One such individual threw beer at Tura Satana's frontwoman Tarrie B. Big mistake. After Miss B had finished verbally attacking his manhood, there was a loud bang, which we decided was the microphone hitting said fuckwit's head. He was visibly shaken. We like Tarrie B.
One of my friends crowd-surfed 5 times during Tura Satana's set. Then threw up. I crowd surfed too and managed to injure my back in the process (not badly, but it fukkin hurt!).
They threw in a few cover versions, and came back with a fukkin brilliant two song encore of 'Negative Creep' and 'Luna'. All in all, a pretty fukkin good gig!
